Liz Murphy, director at The Sweetshop, has directed a new brand film titled Homecoming for Income Insurance, starring Ting Sue, via Leo Singapore and Prodigious.
The film explores the importance of the priceless items people hold nearest to them, an idea the creative team felt Murphy would bring to life.
“Since our first chat with Liz, she started to imagine little details about the house, gave our main character a name, and developed a whole backstory in her mind,” said Henrique Dalio, Creative Director, Prodigious.
“We could feel the passion in bringing this story to life. This is a film that relies 100% on capturing small moments that mean a great deal. The way Liz shoots – compact setup, continuous sequences, leaving the talent comfortable – is just perfect for that.”
Murphy and the team at Sweetshop combined pacing and sound design from Sydney-based sound studio RanRun for the spot, incorporating a narrative misdirect.
“Making people cry is one of my favourite parts of filmmaking,” said Murphy.
“I wanted to take people on a journey that kept escalating emotionally. The two most important things for me are: an actress who can convey a huge depth of emotion with a tiny glance, and an insane level of detail in the art direction.”
The film’s cinematography is led by director of photography Jani Häkli, capturing the intimate, private moments of returning home. The lead character, portrayed by Ting Sue, is followed as the audience is invited to explore the most important things worth insuring — memories.
“Liz never fails to deliver when it comes to sensitive human portraits on film, and the trust placed in her by the passionate and collaborative team at agency, as well as on the client side, really allowed her to achieve a little touch of magic,” said Jenny Crabb, Regional Business Manager / Executive Producer, The Sweetshop Asia.
“A special mention to our talent Ting Sue, who delivered a subtle but powerful performance which sits at the heart of this campaign.”
