‘No Two Periods Are the Same’ Highlights Menstrual Stigma

The street play centered on the message that periods are normal but no two periods are the same, using humor, music, satire, and everyday scenarios.

Sirona Hygiene partnered with AWAAZ – The Nukkad Natak Group to stage a street theater performance at Sarojini Nagar in New Delhi on Menstrual Hygiene Day, bringing conversations about menstruation into a public setting.

The street play centered on the message that periods are normal but no two periods are the same, using humor, music, satire, and everyday scenarios to challenge stigma, myths, and one-size-fits-all perceptions around menstruation in India.

Performed in the Sarojini Nagar market, the act recreated situations including periods being spoken about in whispers at home, menstrual products being wrapped in newspaper at shops, myths restricting women from entering kitchens or temples, and young girls dealing silently with leaks, discomfort, and embarrassment.

The performance drew spontaneous engagement from passersby and sparked conversations around menstrual hygiene, body literacy, and normalizing periods in everyday life, according to the release.

“Over the years, at Sirona, we’ve made it our mission to spread awareness and break taboos around menstrual hygiene through honest, everyday conversations,” said Deep Bajaj, Co-founder & CEO, Sirona Hygiene.

“This Menstrual Hygiene Day, we wanted to take that conversation out of closed rooms and into the streets through Nukkad Natak, a format that connects with people in a real and relatable way. Collaborating with AWAAZ made this initiative especially meaningful because of the powerful work they’ve been doing through street theatre to spark social awareness and public dialogue.”

The performance also highlighted how silence and misinformation can make periods harder to manage, while encouraging more informed conversations around menstrual comfort and period care choices.

AWAAZ brought its interactive storytelling format to the campaign, helping translate the subject matter into accessible moments for a diverse public audience.
