Alfred Wong Joins VML Hong Kong as Chief Creative Officer

The award-winning creative leader joins from Media Arts Lab Shanghai, Apple’s bespoke agency, where he was Executive Creative Director.

VML has tapped Alfred Wong as its new Chief Creative Officer of VML Hong Kong.

The award-winning creative leader joins from Media Arts Lab Shanghai (MAL), Apple’s bespoke agency, where he was Executive Creative Director and has been an integral part in raising the creative bar to world-class and craft impactful work that influenced culture in China, said VML.

Growing up in Leo Burnett Hong Kong, Wong earned the role of Executive Creative Director. Under his leadership, the office was ranked in the top three Hong Kong agencies for three consecutive years. Landing in Shanghai, Wong then served as Chief Creative Officer at ADK, transforming the agency with integrated thinking and elevating the creative standard before making the leap to MAL Shanghai to work on Apple.


 

His 2021 Shot on iPhone film “Nian” garnered global attention including the award for Best Short Film at Tribeca X, Best in Show for Adweek’s Brand Storytelling Awards and a feature in Variety Magazine.

In 2022, Wong’s iPhone campaign “The Comeback” took home e another win from Tribeca X and his third Gold at Cannes Lions.


 

Backed by more than 200 trophies, including back-to-back Gold Cannes Lions, Wong was ranked the #2 Creative Director in Asia. The creative leader is recognized by the most prestigious international advertising festivals across digital, film and print categories, including Cannes Lions, D&AD, One Show, Clio, Tribeca X, ADC, London International Awards, Andy Awards, Adweeks, Spikes Asia, AdFest, LongXi, Hong Kong Kam Fan and EFFIE.

Wong believes that creativity should have no boundaries, neatly demonstrated through his wide range of clients from consumer goods to finance to food and beverage, including Apple, Sony, Samsung, P&G, McDonalds, Pfizer, Hang Send Bank, La Mer, IBM and Ikea.
