Following the accountment that Elon Musk has purchased Twitter, General Motors announced it will pause its advertising on the social media platform to assess which direction Musk plans to take the company.
“We are engaging with Twitter to understand the direction of the platform under their new ownership. As is normal course of business with a significant change in a media platform, we have temporarily paused our paid advertising,” the company said in an emailed statement.
For said it would still interact with customers on Twitter but will not pay for advertising.
Musk, before closing the Twitter acquisition, sought to reassure advertisers by posting a letter to advertisers last Thursday
Musk has previously said he plans to cut back on content restrictions and that he would reverse the permanent bans of accounts previously removed from the platform for repeatedly violating its rules, including former President Donald Trump.
This caused concerns as advertisers might worry about having paid posts appearing next to controversial content. Musk letter took aim at calming that concern.
“In addition to adhering to the laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences,” said Musk.
“Fundamentally, Twitter aspires to be the most respected advertising platform in the world that strengthens your brand and grows your enterprise … Let us build something extraordinary together.”
