Superapp Grab and automotic brand GAC have announced a strategic partnership to deploy 20,000 electric vehicles across Southeast Asia. The collaboration includes system integration between both companies and aims to enhance the in-vehicle experience for Grab’s driver-partners.
The partnership will begin with the rollout of three GAC models—AionY, AionES, and Aion V—across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. These vehicles are designed for professional ride-hailing, featuring 90-degree door openings and spacious rear legroom.
The collaboration aligns with GAC’s strategy of “Tech-Driven GAC, Advancing Global Reach with a Full-Chain Ecosystem,” which focuses on an integrated EV ecosystem.
As part of the agreement, Grab’s driver app will be embedded in GAC’s intelligent cockpit system. This will allow driver-partners to access navigation, high-demand area guidance, and safety alerts directly on GAC’s display, reducing the need to switch between devices and improving road focus.
Driver-partners will be able to rent the EVs through Grab’s fleet partners or access them via Grab’s car ownership schemes. Both companies plan to continue exploring technological innovations and expanding EV use in the region.
“At Grab, we are constantly seeking innovations that empower our driver-partners,” said Philipp Kandal, Chief Product Officer at Grab.
“By integrating the Grab driver app directly into the GAC cockpit display, our driver-partners can receive timely and important data, such as precise navigation and safety alerts, in a more ergonomic way. This ensures a more seamless and intuitive experience that reduces our driver-partners’ cognitive load, while advancing our shared commitment to carbon neutrality and a sustainable future.”
