WPP CEO Mark Read has been awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the King’s New Year Honours list, for his services to the creative industries.

“I am delighted and proud to have received this honour,” said Read.

“The creative industries and the many thousands of amazing people who work within them – not least those at WPP – are such an important part of British life, with a huge impact on both our culture and economy. It’s wonderful to see that contribution recognised.”

Read ascended from Chief Operating Officer to the CEO role at WPP in 2018 succeeding Sir Martin Sorrell. Before that, he held leadership roles at Wunderman and WPP Digital.

Also honored was Jane Boardman, CEO of M&C Saatchi Talk,  awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) for voluntary services to fashion and beauty.

“I am immensely honoured to have been awarded an OBE for my services to fashion and beauty,” said Boardman.

“I feel privileged to have played a small role in elevating the work of the leaders of these incredible industries, particularly Caroline Rush, Dylan Jones and Millie Kendall.

The New Year Honours is a part of the British honours system marked by the naming of new members of orders of chivalry and recipients of other official honours. The honours have been awarded at New Year as far back as 1890.
