Talking to Wendy, what comes through first is warmth: quick, generous, emotionally available. But beneath it is the kind of sharp intelligence that reads a room quickly, anticipates what could go wrong, and still makes people feel they can do more than they thought possible.
For Wendy, leadership has never been about being the person with all the answers. It is about creating an environment where other people discover they already have more capability than they realised. She is the kind of leader who will set a goal that makes a team’s faces fall, then help them build the route towards it. What she loves is the moment on the other side, when people realise they were capable all along.
It’s a philosophy that was shaped early when, as a young marketer, she was newly promoted into a senior marketing role at Ansett Airlines. Often the only woman among her peers, Wendy found herself leading through one of the most difficult periods in Australian aviation. In the days surrounding September 11, as uncertainty spread through the industry, something in her resisted the narrative that everything would work out at Ansett.
So she prepared her team. She encouraged them to update their CVs and quietly sent them to every recruiter she knew in Melbourne. Weeks later, when Ansett collapsed and thousands of people entered the job market almost overnight, most of the sixty people she had recruited found new roles within weeks
I’ve always loved nurturing teams, helping them grow and watching them build relationships with each other.
Looking back, Wendy shares, she hardly remembers the campaigns they were working on or the commercial targets they were chasing. She remembers the people. That experience reinforced a philosophy she has carried throughout her career: leadership is ultimately about looking after people, particularly when the future feels uncertain.
As Wendy’s career grew across regional and global leadership roles, including seven years as ASEAN CMO of Salesforce and, currently, Global Chief Marketing Officer at Global Dairy Trade, she found herself leading a growing number of people. Over more than two decades, she has built and developed marketing teams across multiple countries, mentoring hundreds of marketers, many of whom have gone on to become marketing leaders and Chief Marketing Officers in their own right.
It’s very special to know you’ve had an impact on somebody else’s career.
Her influence, however, has never stopped at the organisations she has worked for. Wendy’s drive to give back ultimately led her to establish and become President of the International Advertising Association Singapore, creating a platform that brings together marketers, agencies, media owners and technology partners to learn from one another, raise standards across the profession and strengthen the industry’s collective impact.
Wendy has judged and spoken at leading industry events around the world, including serving as president of the Jury for Creative B2B Cannes Lions, but recognition has never been her goal. She sees each invitation as one more opportunity to contribute.
That same instinct eventually found another outlet.
During years of constant international travel, Wendy began capturing reflections in the notes app on her phone while sitting in airport lounges and waiting to board flights. They were never intended to become a book. They were simply observations about confidence, resilience, leadership and the quieter moments that shape us between life’s bigger milestones.

When she began sharing those reflections on LinkedIn, people wrote back privately. Some shared stories of their own. Others sent videos through tears, explaining that a particular piece had arrived at exactly the moment they needed it most.
By the end of 2025, those reflections had become ‘Between Flights’. More than a leadership book, it is an invitation to pause. It explores the space between achievements, decisions and destinations, recognising that growth often happens in the quieter periods when we are still becoming who we are meant to be.
For Wendy, writing the book was never about becoming an author. It was another way of reaching people.
If my words help even one person feel less alone, more hopeful or more confident, then they have served their purpose.
Looking across Wendy Walker’s career, a pattern emerges. Whether leading global marketing organisations, mentoring future leaders, building industry communities or writing, each chapter has been another expression of the same belief: that success is measured not only by what we achieve ourselves, but by the confidence we leave behind in other people.
That is also what drew her to HerMark: the chance to shine a light on women whose work, talent and resilience are not always fully seen. Wendy speaks about women in the industry with immediate warmth. They are, she says, “absolute warriors”: women building careers, raising families, leading teams, surviving private difficulties, starting again, holding more than the room may ever know.

Ask Wendy what her mark looks like, and she does not hesitate: “A heart shape. Care, encouragement and belief. I hope people leave feeling genuinely cared for. If I’ve helped someone believe they could achieve something they never thought possible, then that’s the mark I’d like to leave.”
It is a fitting mark for someone whose career has been defined by the confidence she has inspired in others and the profession she continues to strengthen.
