Takumi Fujiwara and Keiichi Tsuchiya Battle it Out in Campaign for Toyota’s GR86

Toyota has tapped renowned manga star, Takumi Fujiwara, to launch its 2022 GR86 sports car. Takumi is the main character of the Initial D series and the son of legendary street racer Bunta Fujiwara.

The fast-paced anime ads are dubbed in English and feature Takumi roating the road in his legendary Toyota AE86 when he sees the GR86 in his rearview mirror – driven by none other than professional-racer Keiichi Tsuchiya, also known as the Drift King. He proceeds to take Takumi to school on the road – wrapping up the spot saying “call me sensei’.

In an interview with Muse, Intertrend executive creative director Rosanne Kang Jovanovski said:

“For many, their first encounter with a Toyota 86 vehicle was through the eyes of Takumi Fujiwara taking on the mountain passes of Japan. Our audience grew up with this, so there was truly no better conduit to introduce the 2022 GR86. His participation helped to solidify the authenticity of our stories.”

Good stuff.
