Subway Singapore has taken a traditional local twist in the kitchen with the launch of the Rendang Sub and Pandan Cookie.
The first 10,000 hometown subs bought will be matched by the sandwich giant and distributed to staff and volunteers at vaccination centres, testing centres and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.
The initiative is Subway’s first in the community geared toward recognizing and rewarding the incredibly hard work being put in by those ensuring Singaporeans are kept safe and vaccinated against Covid-19.
When Local Indulgence and Freshness Unite
Rendang, with its medley of flavors, including chili, onion, turmeric, ginger, garlic, desiccated coconut, tamarind, and lemongrass has existed since the 15th century, first in Indonesia and then winding through the Malayan Archipelago to Singapore. Subway is offering both chicken and beef versions.
The sub and the chewy Pandan cookie will be available from July 21st to September 28th across all Subway restaurants islandwide and on delivery platforms GrabFood, FoodPanda, and Deliveroo.
- Chicken Rendang sub starts from $7.30 for a 6-inch and $12.30 for a footlong
- Beef Rendang sub starts from $7.90 for a 6-inch and $12.90 for a footlong
- Pandan cookie starts from $1.40
“The Rendang Sub and Pandan Cookie took us a year and a half to master, and they’ll be the first of many localized options done in response to customers’ growing demand for locally curated flavors,” said Samad Mohd Shariff, Country Director, Subway, South East Asia.
“From internal tastings and restaurant taste tests, the Rendang sub and Pandan cookie underwent in-depth and intensive research to deliver the right and familiar flavor to our guests. We hope that Singaporeans will enjoy this as they celebrate Singapore’s 56th birthday and revel in the collective spirit of togetherness.”
Thanks to All Fighting Against Covid-19
Subway will match that to distribute up to 10,000 subs to staff and volunteers across vaccination and testing centers islandwide as well as to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases. The distribution will take place between August 3rd and 17th.
“It only felt right that with the launch of Subway’s first local offering, we support and share our gratitude for those working tirelessly to keep our country safe during the pandemic,” said Samad Mohd Shariff, Country Director, Subway, South East Asia.
“Subway will be matching 10,000 rendang sub orders to distribute to staff and volunteers at our Vaccination and Testing Centres and NCID. They are the pillars of the government’s efforts to test and vaccinate everyone so that we can emerge stronger together.”
