Sony Music Entertainment (SME) Taiwan today has announced that it has enhanced its relationship withMandopop artist WeiBird.

WeiBird, a folk-rock singer-songwriter has six studio albums, one live album, and two EPs under his belt. He won the Golden Melody Award for Best New Singer in 2011 and Best Composer in 2015. Last year, he was to cover the theme song for the movie ‘Hello Ghost.’ His Mandopop hit “Red Scarf,” the theme song for Giddens Ko’s Taiwanese fantasy film Till We Meet Again (2021), has achieved multi-award recognition and remained on Spotify’s Taiwan Top 50 for an impressive 27 months and counting. The same song also recently hit number 1 on multiple China charts.

“Extending my partnership with SME Taiwan feels like the perfect next step to unleash my creative potential,” said WeiBird.

“Their commitment to fostering artistic growth aligns perfectly with my vision, and their global network creates an incredible platform to share my music with a wider audience. I’m excited to collaborate with this talented team and explore new artistic possibilities together.”

SME Taiwan has also said it enhanced its partnership with Cyndi Wang. Widely described as the “Mandopop princess” or “Taiwanese Sweetheart”, Wang has consistently released pop hits for 2 decades, noted SME, adding that she continues to be one of the top female popstars in the Mandopop industry who has seen a recent resurgence since winning the China variety series “Sisters Who Make Waves Season 3”. To celebrate the new partnership, she released her latest album “Bite Back”, with hit single “Sentimental” with Sony Music.

By joining forces, SME Taiwan will help WeiBird and Cyndi Wang solidify their position within the domestic Chinese music industry and help them reach new fans elsewhere.

“The landscape of Mandopop is undergoing a fascinating transformation,” said Kevin Foo, General Manager, Sony Music Entertainment Taiwan.

“By strengthening our partnership with WeiBird, and welcoming established artists like Cyndi Wang, SME Taiwan is strategically positioned to be a catalyst for this evolution. By merging their exceptional talent with our global network and industry knowledge, we can not only elevate Mandopop to new heights but also redefine its influence on the international music scene.”

SME Taiwan’s portfolio of artists includes Kumachan, Julia Peng, J.Sheon, Vivian Hsu and more. Sony Music Entertainment Taiwan artists also made history at the 34th Golden Melody Awards in 2023 with 11 nominations and three major award wins, with Kumachan’s PRO winning ‘Best Mandarin Album’, Julia Peng taking home ‘Best Hakka Singer’ and A-Lin clinching ‘Best Female Singer’.
