We all have our image of jolly ol’ Saint Nick – most of which have entered our consciousness through interactions with brands and their version put forth over the years.
This year we see a Santa like no other in a new Christmas campaign in Australia from discount supermarket chain ALDI that charts the mental recovery of Father Christmas following a meteor-like sleigh crash in Australia’s outback.
The 90-second spot, created by BMF, portrays a grounded (and depressed) Santa adjusting to life amongst a friendly community of Aussies with whom he builds fences, drinks milk in the pub, shears sheep, and dashes away from a snake, and at times moping about looking anything but jolly with his situation.
It’s Christmas, so of course, there’s a happy ending. Check it out:
“It’s a quintessential Aussie Christmas story with an abundance of food, family, friends, and Santa – all set against a beautiful backdrop of the Australian outback,” said Paul Coles, general manager of ALDI at BMF
