Samsung’s First Galaxy S7 ads are Dorky Works of Comedic Art

Samsung’s new Galaxy S7 spots from Wieden + Kennedy that debuted during Sunday night’s Oscar broadcast are all good –one, which is taps several celebrities in self-deprecating roles, along with a cast of others odd characters, is great.

The flagship spot, “Why”, features cameos from Lil Wayne, Wesley Snipes, Doc Rivers, James Harden, and William H. Macy each highlighting the smartphone’s notable features with their own quirky narrative.

The spot also features brief appearances by competitor devices including Apple, LG, and Motorola — all in unflattering situations.

While the other two other spots, “Dark” and “Water,” are absent the star power, both are further examples of the quality work coming that is coming out of W+K shop for Samsung.

Both spots are funny, but “Dark” definitely draws the most laughs.

Samsung won’t say how much they paid for the trio of ads, but it’s probably well into the millions.

LG was quite candid in saying that it’s going to throw all it’s got to keep up with Samsung’s ad spending. Look for some great spots from them and other smartphone makers trying to keep up with the high benchmark set by Samsung.
