Playground Productions has released a cinematic trailer for its revamped Backyard Baseball, with the game set to launch on Steam for Mac and PC on July 9, followed by Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation versions.
The cinematic trailer follows an announcement video released in February 2026 and is accompanied by news that online multiplayer will be available in the game — described by the company as the most-requested feature from the fan community.
Couch co-op will also be included alongside online multiplayer.
Playground Productions is a children’s and family company focused on film, television, digital media, and video games. The original Backyard Baseball was released in 1997.
“We’re incredibly excited to introduce online multiplayer and couch co-op to this new game,” said Lindsay Barnett, CEO, Playground Productions.
“Backyard Baseball has an incredible fan community. With online play and couch co-op, we’re proud to be creating more opportunities for fans to connect and play together. Backyard is for kids and kids at heart. We want everyone to play like a kid!”
Seven MLB greats who were previously featured in old Backyard Baseball games will be back for the newest installment. Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Kenny Lofton, Jason Giambi, as well as Hall of Famers Jeff Bagwell, Chipper Jones, and Vladimir Guerrero, will be in the 2026 version.
