As you slip on those leather shoes and grab your leather bag before work this morning, it’s easy to step out the door without thinking about the animal suffering involved in the process.
Ogilvy & Mather Bangkok and PETA Asia have teamed up for a campaign called “Behind the Leather” that they hope will raise awareness –in a way you’re not soon to forget.
First, they opened a fake pop-up shop in one of Bangkok’s shopping malls and placed what appeared to be ordinary luxury leather goods on display. Everything ordinary ends there.
Upon opening the bags, unsuspecting shoppers were treated to the sight of all manner of gore.
“Shoppers were shocked when they opened a bag or unzipped a jacket to reveal a beating heart or pulsating intestines,” PETA’s Ashley Fruno said in an interview with Bored Panda. “This is a provocative way to confront consumers with the cruelty behind every exotics skin bag, belt, jacket or pair of shoes.”
