Seven Questions

How did you get your first break in the industry?

Well, it’s an interesting story, although I did my graduation in media, I was confused after the final year whether I should chase a career in media or pursue further studies in law, which charmed me the most at the time.

Before my graduation, I applied for a job at one of India’s leading financial media groups, Concept Communication, and got an interesting role in capital market PR. I started right after and was awestruck by corporate media during my time there and the rest of my PR journey is history.

Post that, I landed a job at Enormous Brands where I learned the true power of communication and creativity. For the first seven days of my journey, I was still trying to get used to the fact that I’m working with the “Jhingalala” duo Ajay and Ashish.

What is your personal mantra?

I have always believed that anything is achievable if you keep chasing it long enough. From my first day in the industry, I realized that there are no office hours if you want to be successful.

From what person, place, or thing have you drawn your greatest creative inspiration?

Frankly, I like to follow a sponge approach – I absorb and observe all the things from the people who cross my path, so it is difficult to narrow down on an individual. There have been way too many that have enriched my life.

When I came to Mumbai, it was awe-inspiring. The all-round energy that the city radiates is beyond belief. No matter what the circumstances, Mumbai will always strive to improve. There’s so much about this city that inspires me – right from the slums to the skyscrapers and everything in between. I believe that creative inspiration is all around us, we just need the eyes to see it. And, then whether you feel happy or sad, the beautiful sea never disappoints.

What do you love about the job?

Firstly, it’s the immense satisfaction that I get when we creatively solve a client’s problem. You need a keep-going attitude to constantly innovate and create something showcase-worthy for the client. Secondly, the fact that I can return to my job every morning with the same excitement and enthusiasm makes it irresistible.

What about your job are you not so crazy about?

“Coffee” and peoples’ love for it. Yeah, I particularly don’t like tea or coffee, so there are no breaks for me. While my colleagues take coffee breaks, I still haven’t found a good enough beverage that merit’s a break.

What is some work you’ve done that you’re most proud of?

I’ve always believed that when we talk about work in advertising, it’s never an individual contribution. It’s always a team effort and sometimes, even the person who may inspire you isn’t aware of his/her role.

If I have to mention something in specific, I’m very proud of the ACC Limited’s Diwali campaign as this was the first film of my advertising career (They say “you’ll always remember your first!”).

Also, I am a big fan of the cheeky and funny communication that our team did for Keys Hotels (now part of Lemon Tree Hotels Group). Launching Apollo 24×7 app played a big role in my advertising career as well.

If you had to choose another career what would it be?

Definitely, a corporate lawyer at an international law firm or a stock market trader at NASDAQ. Anything that involves working for more than 16-18 hours a day will fascinate me.
