Seven Questions

How did you get your first break in the industry?

During my junior year in 2015, a group of seniors approached me for a part-time position in their start-up based on my design and media portfolio that I had developed from ‘Google how-to’s’. During the two years that I worked with them in the Marketing department, the start-up selling bread infused with fancy flavors (MARO Tandoors) became the talk of the town with their organically viral campaigns. This experience of mine landed me a job in BBDO Pakistan right after graduation.

What is your personal mantra?

“Be a giver.”

As difficult as it sounds and in a world that is already too demanding, be someone who actively and consciously tries to give. Give help. Give company. Give advice. Give support. Give compliments. And all these things will come back to you in ways and at times, unimaginable for you.

From what person, place, or thing have you drawn your greatest creative inspiration?

Travel.

There is nothing in this world more inspiring than seeing the same beings living so differently as you move away from your idea of the center. From architecture to customs, from dresses to language, from food to history – every single thing around you is asking you to think more, create new and work differently.

What do you love about the job?

People.

Your work is a culmination of all the energies, ideas, perspectives and personalities of the people around you and if all of it combines to result in positive then you are sure to love what you do. With people who think for others before themselves and who appreciate before they criticize, it is all in positive for me.

What about your job are you not so crazy about?

The long chain.

From the long chain of processes to the long chain of email threads – I would want it to be more efficient so we can have more time to be just creative.

What is some work you’ve done that you’re most proud of?

The UN Women Bridal Uniform campaign, done in collaboration with Ali Xeeshan is to date my best project. To be able to work on a cause (child marriages) so big and to create an impact not just nationally at the governmental level but also internationally is motivating to say the least.

If you had to choose another career what would it be?

An entrepreneur – I like the idea of being my own boss and the freedom to create my own space.
