Norway’s Telenor Battling it out for a Piece of Myanmar’s Telco Market

Myanmar’s untapped market is the battleground for two international telecom providers duking it out for a slice of mobile market.

Telenor Group, a Norwegian multinational telecommunications company and one of the world’s largest has operations in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and Asia.

Telenor and Qatar-based Ooredoo are the only foreign-owned mobile operators  given licences in Myanmar, which has rapidly opened up to foreign investment as part of economic and political reforms.

Telenor recently launched a campaign to promote its 3G services with a TV commercial created by independent agency Mango Marketing.

The ad is a feel good minute featuring young Burmese using their mobile devices to share photos, navigate across the countryside and get some roadside assistance when their car breaks down.
