Minute Maid Didn’t Need John Hamm in Their Ad – ‘So We Shot it Without Him’

“I think that something to do would be nice.”

Minute Maid has launched a new campaign promoting their zero-sugar offering. The campaign features a short film starring John Hamm in a role that sees the award-winning actor playing the humorous part of the unwanted and unneeded.

“Great taste and zero sugar didn’t need John Hamm to be in the ad,” says the voiceover as Hamm practices his lines in the mirror prior to his scene. “So We Shot it Without Him.”

“It was Jon Hamm or bust,” said Alex Ames, Senior Director, Content and Creative Excellence.

“We wanted to pair this iconic brand with an equally iconic partner who could authentically channel the brand’s voice and the ‘Sells Itself’ campaign idea.”

“I’m honored to help kick off Minute Maid® Zero Sugar’s campaign – even though, as the ad suggests, the product doesn’t necessarily need celebrity endorsement because its great taste sells itself,” said Hamm,

“It’s refreshing to work with a brand that is not only loved by consumers but is also willing to have a little fun with its marketing campaigns. Although it is confusing that they’re asking me to write this quote when they specifically and explicitly told me I had to do, and I quote, ‘nothing’…”

The Minute Maid Zero Sugar campaign was delivered by Studio X, the execution arm of WPP Open X, and supported by X&O, Essence Mediacom, United Talent Agency, Zeno Group, and Ogilvy.
