Kia Motors has unveiled a new logo and tagline drawing inspiration from Seoul, the automotive manufacturer’s hometown. The KM logo is paired with the tagline “Movement that Inspires.”
The Korean company made the announcement with a massive drone-based fireworks show that lit up the night sky above Incheon, Korea with the logo. The news comes on the heels of 2020’s Plan S, which highlighted a new business strategy.
“Kia’s new logo represents the company’s commitment to becoming an icon for change and innovation,” said Ho Sung Song. CEO and President of Kia Motors.
“The automotive industry is experiencing a period of rapid transformation, and Kia is proactively shaping and adapting to these changes. Our new logo represents our desire to inspire customers as their mobility needs evolve, and for our employees to rise to the challenges we face in a fast-changing industry,” he added.
In a video released on Kia’s website, Karim Habib, Head of Kia Global Design added, “In Seoul, you find new cohabitating with old, you also find incredible energy, speed but also some wonderful pockets of calm. Seoul is inspiring for its energy and that energy is also what’s inspiring us at Kia. We believe movement, transportation, and mobility are a human right.”
“And we want design to do its job. For any brand creating a new logo is a huge endeavor. We want our new logo to represent the potential of the future. We’re also confident in the future. The symmetry of that logo represents that confidence. And the rise that you see in the gesture of that logo is also the rise that we want for us, for the brand, but most importantly for our customers. The Kia logo stands for our future. We want to make our mark and we want that logo to be our signature of that future.”
On January 15th, the company will hold a digital “New Kia Brand Showcase” event to reveal the brand purpose and strategy.
