Facebook is rolling out 1,500 new emojis on the chat app including the ability to let users customize the emojis’ skin color with the hope of making them more diverse and less sexist.
Other changes include more female police officers and doctors and even a redheaded version.
The move by Facebook comes after a group of Google employees last month called on the Unicode Consortium to make the emojis more gender inclusive.
“We’re diversifying the genders to create a more balanced mix that’s more representative of our world,” Facebook said.
Facebook Messenger currently claims 900 million monthly and recently debuted chat bots as part of efforts to monetize the app.
