Rewinding Elton John’s Life Back to that Fateful Christmas Morning

That one moment, that one day, that one gift. It can change you, and, on the rare occasion, change the entire world.

And so it goes with this year’s John Lewis Christmas ad, which walks a narrative road through the life of Sir Elton John – all the way back to that fateful Christmas morning when he was given his first piano.

Directed by Academy’s Seb Edwards, the film, titled ‘The Boy and the Piano’, is soundtracked by the Elton John & Bernie Taupin classic, “Your Song”  and marks the 10th Christmas campaign released by the UK department store by adam&eve/DDB, London.

“The John Lewis Christmas campaign has so many warm memories for me and my family,” said John, born Reginald Kenneth Dwight. “It’s been a lovely opportunity for me to reflect on my life in music and the incredible journey I have been on, and how first playing my Grandmother’s piano marks the moment when music came into my life. The ad is absolutely fantastic and I’ve truly loved every minute of being a part of it.”
