Corporate Identity: Korea’s National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art

In 2012 the corporate identity project for South Korea’s National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art was tasked with simplifying the communication of the organization’s brand.

To achieve this, the full name was first abbreviated with the majuscules “MMCA”. From there a wide colour spectrum was sampled from and then combined with an adaptable image language which employed visual aspects that sought to have the logo amplify the sense of space –in line with the museum’s spacious interior.

In visual aspects, the logo amplifies the sense of space and three-dimensionality through irregular shapes and expresses the future of the MMCA as a multi-cultural place. The unique contour of the logo is highly flexible for applying to a diverse range of promotional material. The museum identity aims to enable communication locally as well as globally.

The corporate identity was designed by Seoul-based brand consultancy Infinite Group. It was also selected as a 2013 Red Dot Award: Communication Design winner.
