Coca-Cola Korea has named Choi Su-chong as its new Chief Executive Officer, replacing Lee Chang Yeob, who held the post for more than a decade.

Choi, who joined Coca-Cola Korea as a brand manager for Sprite and Fanta in 2006, will be tasked with managing operations in the South Korean market

Since 2018, she led sales as well as marketing at the company and has over the course of her career worked on the launching of several products in the market including Georgia Coffee, Seagrams, Toreta, and AdeS.

Choi has previously held positions at Mars Wrigley Korea and Samsung USA, as well as having worked with Coca-Cola in Hong Kong, Mongolia, and Taiwan.

“It’s my pleasure and honor to be appointed as the new CEO of Coca-Cola Korea,” said Choi. “Coca-Cola Korea will solidify its leadership in the beverage market through a diverse portfolio that will meet rapidly changing consumer demands.”

A Win for Female in Execs in South Korea

According to a survey released last year by The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, which queried the top 500 companies based on sales, a total of 454 women held executive positions – representing 3 percent of all executives.

The numbers are rising, albeit slowly, with a report in 2014 showing 2.3 percent women executives in the country. The survey last year found that at the 500 top companies in South Korea, 328 held no women in executive positions.
