Chris Riley has been given the reigns as the newly named group chairman of Ogilvy & Mather Singapore. The announcement comes just eight months after he was tapped as chief operating officer for the group.
Riley will take the place of Fiona Gordon and transition into the role over the next few months. Gordon, who ran Ogilvy operations in Singapore since 2011, will relocate back to the UK for a new role that will be announced at a later date.
“Our Singapore operation has gone from strength to strength with Fiona’s leadership,” said Riley.
“It is a privilege to take the helm of such a successful agency business with such a strong management team in place.”
Riley first joined OgilvyOne Worldwide Hong Kong back in 1995 before relocating to OgilvyOne Singapore in 2004 as managing director.
He’s looking towards the future as he steps into a larger role.
“We’ve mapped our ambition for the next five years, and I’m excited with the opportunity to evolve our talent and services to raise the bar even further for our clients.”
Riley will report directly to Kent Wertime, the agency’s chief operating officer in Asia.
Wertime said that he was proud to make such a significant appointment from with the ranks of the company rather than going outside for c-level talent.
“He has already contributed consistently to our Singapore business year-after-year, so I have no hesitation that he’s the person to help us maintain our leading position particularly in the areas of digital, data, social, and other growing parts of our business.”
