The Budweiser Frogs are Back after 20 Years for Bud Light’s Intro to the UK


The iconic Budweiser frogs from one of most widely recognized alcohol campaigns ever are back for a new campaign introducing Bud Light in the UK. The new campaign spot is nearly identical stylistically to the previous work done 20 years ago and it remains to me seen what creative direction it will take going forward, but it’s good to have the frogs back.

“More than 20 years on from its original release, we still receive comments from people who remember the Frogs and ask us if we are bringing them back,” said Bud Light marketing manager Andre Finamore. “The launch of Bud Light in the U.K. is one of AB InBev’s biggest-ever brand campaigns. To celebrate this, we’re playing on the nostalgic elements of one of our most iconic and memorable ads, while also giving it a uniquely Bud Light twist.”

The original Budweiser frogs ad work, which was conceived by copywriter David Swaine and art director Michael Smith at D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in 1994, went on to win awards at shows such as the Clios and Cannes Lions.


 

D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles however, lost the Budweiser account, despite its meteoric success. Goodby Silverstein & Partners took the reins from there and later added the New York-based chameleons Frankie and Louie to the campaign narrative.
