Created by Leo India, the campaign film follows a young woman inspired by her grandmother’s memories of community Pookalams to bring her neighbors together for Onam.

Birla Opus Paints has launched its Onam campaign, featuring a film that celebrates Kerala’s cultural traditions through a story centered on community, togetherness, and the shared tradition of creating a Pookalam.

Set in Kerala, the film follows a young woman preparing her newly painted home for Onam with her grandmother. Inspired by memories of the community Pookalams they created during her childhood, she sets out to recreate that sense of togetherness in her residential society.

What begins as an effort to make her grandmother happy gradually brings neighbors together to transform a neglected courtyard into the center of the Onam celebrations. The film concludes with the grandmother witnessing the community coming together for the festival.

The creative work released in Malayalam and Hindi, carries the message, “Many Colours Make a Pookalam, Many Hearts Make an Onam,” drawing on the tradition of the floral arrangement as a symbol of collective celebration.

“Onam is a celebration of togetherness, gratitude and new beginnings,” said Inderpreet Singh, Head of Marketing, Birla Opus Paints.

“This campaign highlights how culture, community and camaraderie, play a pivotal role in making festivals more joyous. The film reflects our belief that colours have the power not only to transform spaces, but also to bring people closer, creating memories and connections that last long after the celebrations are over.”

“At Birla Opus, the belief is that the spaces we create are ultimately brought to life by the people who live in them,” said Sachin Kamble, Chief Creative Officer, Leo South Asia.

“That thought became the inspiration for this film. The pookalam isn’t just a beautiful symbol of Onam, it’s a tradition that brings people together. Through this story, we wanted to celebrate the idea that while colours and flowers create the backdrop, it’s the shared moments and relationships that truly make a place feel like home.”
