BBH Singapore’s ‘Second Skin’ Offers a Unique Take on Employee Handbooks

BBH Singapore has introduced a new take on employee handbooks with Second Skin. Described as “a raincoat meticulously crafted to seamlessly blend form and function, redefining workplace essentials,” it was designed in collaboration with Laughing Tiger, a local cult brand and merch experts.

The garment aims to push utilitarian design beyond its limits, with every panel designed to serve a purpose, encapsulating vital information for both new and existing team members.

The left inlay stitches BBH’s 10 guiding principles, intentionally designed to keep these values close to the heart. The custom inner pocket also cradles the exclusive BBH notebook, perfectly situated for capturing ideas on the fly.


 

There are also subtle nods to mental wellness policies and resources embedded in the clothing care labels. Scannable codes, strategically placed throughout the raincoat, lead employees to all the tools they need, like a comprehensive leave application guide and the curated office Spotify playlist. A hidden day-off also awaits discovery within the seams for BBH Singapore employees.

Designed for BBH Black Sheep, Second Skin has an inky-black nylon façade, a custom oversized silhouette, and handcrafted touches (from embroidery to fabric patches) — all of which were crafted over a six-month prototyping period.

Second Skin’s innovative design has garnered attention from awards shows winning two Gold and one Silver at The Creative Circle Awards – leading to BBH Singapore winning the title of Design Agency of the Year.
