BBDO Worldwide Chief Creative Officer David Lubars to Retire at the End of the Year

After a 43-year career in the industry, including the past 20 years as Chief Creative Officer of BBDO Worldwide, David Lubars has announced his retirement.

In a statement, BBDO said:

Recognized by Forbes as one of the top ten creative directors of all time, Lubars’ work has always surprised, always been crafted to perfection, and has always revealed, as he would say, “the brand’s true magic.”


 

From “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” for Snickers, to HBO Voyeur and the groundbreaking BMW Films.

During his tenure at the helm, BBDO was named “Network of the Year” at Cannes Lions a record seven times, earning it the title of Network of the Decade in 2020.

Lubars’ personal achievements are impressive as well with over 600 Cannes Lions, 700 One Show pencils, and seven Emmy awards. He was inducted to The One Club Creative Hall of Fame and was honored with  a Lifetime Achievement Award frin the Clios.


 

On his decision to retire, Lubars said, “It’s been a 100-metre sprint over a marathon course. My knees are sore, so I’m ready to walk now. Anyone who has worked in advertising knows this is not a walking industry.”
