Brandmaker Profile features the people and their work on both the creative and the business side of branding in Asia.
Life, sometimes like the colors in a work of art, come together just right and work out beautifully.
Such is the case of Rigved Sathe and Payal Jagwani, a pair of design students working toward their degrees at the Symbiosis Institute of Design in Pune, a bustling city of 3.1 million southeast of Mumbai.
“We first met during a design thinking class where we were asked to work as a team and impressed the rest of the class with our crazy ideas,” Rigved, a native of Pune recently told Branding in Asia.
It wasn’t long before the two found how fruitful their creative collaboration could be, said Payal, who originally hails from Kanuma, in central Japan.
“We realized our mutual love and passion for design and discovered that our skills complimented each others,” said Payal.
“That is what encouraged us to produce our best work.”
And, what great work it has been.
Though they won’t graduate until next year, their fruitful collaboration has already earned them respect and praise worldwide.
In August, they released Around the World with Type, a creative project that combined the 26 letters of the alphabet with iconic imagery of global landmarks—the Sphinx for Egypt; Christ the Redeemer statue for Brazil; a gondola rowing across a Venetian canal.
The expansive project caught the attention of some of the world’s most widely-visited websites such as FastCoDesign and DesignTaxi.
These efforts were later awarded the “Best Design Project” award by the Behance Portfolio Review.
Moving forward, as graduation nears, they are both gravitating towards careers in creative advertising.
“Being able to influence people’s mindsets is something that advertising allows us to work on,” said Rigved.
“We truly believe that design can bring a change for the better and play a great problem solving tool. This enables us to tackle design problems and bring a change in the everyday life of consumers.”
Rigved and Payal were kind enough to share some of their work with us following our recent conversation.
