Apple Releases Chinese New Year Film ‘Through the Five Passes’

Apple’s annual Chinese New Year film was directed this year by award-winning director and screenwriter Peng Fei.

Apple has launched its annual, and most often epic, Chinese New Year film. This year titled “Through the Five Passes,”  the 18-minute Shot on iPhone Film tells its story through the lens of a renowned Chinese Opera and a young performer who defies the odds to be on stage.

As Apple describes it:

Welcome the Year of the Rabbit with a story about a young man, his love for opera, and the spirit of persistence. Apple and director Peng Fei come together to reinvent the renowned Chinese Opera “Through the Five Passes”.

The wonderfully shot film also features an original score by award-winning composer, Varqa Buehrer.

According to 9to5 Mac, Apple CEO Tim Cook shared the film on the Chinese social media platform Weibo with the following message.

“I hope you enjoy this touching story that shines a light on humanity, shows the power of pursuing one’s passion, and reminds us all of what it takes to overcome life’s obstacles. Happy Chinese New Year! Enjoy!”

There is also a “making of” film.

Apple is additionally selling a limited-edition version of AirPods Pro with a “Year of the Rabbit” engraving on the charging case. The limited edition of the AirPods Pro version is available online and in-store in China, Taiwan, Macau, and Hong Kong.
