In an effort to create greater opportunity, Amazon has launched an exclusive online store for women entrepreneurs in India.

Dubbed the Amazon Saheli initiative the initiative is being done in partnership with non-government social-service entities Impulse Social Enterprise and the Self-Employed Women Association (Sewa). “Saheli” which is Hindi for “women’s friend” was created to enable women entrepreneurs to more easily sell their products online.

“Through Amazon Saheli we aim to bring a change in the lives of thousands of women entrepreneurs with the help of our partners,” said Gopal Pillai, Amazon India director/GM seller services.

Amazon Saheli will offer training and skill development workshops related to online selling to help develop skills & capabilities necessary to grow a business on Amazon. The training workshops will include sessions on listing of products, imaging & cataloging, packaging & shipping, inventory & account management and customer service.
