AdFest Releases a Tribute Film Remembering Ad Legend Jimmy Lam

Following the unfortunate passing of legendary ad industry giant Jimmy Lam on October 30, an outpouring of tributes from creatives around the region spoke of his impact on the industry both in Hong Kong, the Asia-Pacific, and the world.

Lam, whose career saw him work at agencies, including McCann, Dentsu, and DDB, was the first Hong Kong creative director to be invited to judge at Cannes Lions, and in 1989 he was the co-founder of Thailand-based awards show, AdFest.

To honor his memory AdFest has put together a 2-minute film celebrating his being a driving force at the awards show that both celebrates and nurtures creativity.


In a release AdFest writes:

His vision and foresight were integral in establishing this Asian festival of creativity. Jimmy’s enthusiasm, perseverance and skill brought us forward year after year and he will be missed, not only by AdFest but by the creative community throughout Asia.

Jimmy was a pillar of strength and worked tirelessly to make AdFest a reality; he was the groundforce that shaped it into the success it is today and the advertising industry in Asia Pacific is richer for his effort.


Jimmy left AdFest in the good hands of a dedicated team. The preparation for the Virtual Award Show for 2022 is well underway and his clear strategy and ideas are already being implemented. The team will continue to build and evolve his vision and legacy to recognise, support, and celebrate Asian creativity.
